Planning a Weekly No-Spend Day

This month we have been talking about how to plan and pull of a successful no-spend month. However, we know a month can be a long time for some, and the idea of limiting spending for four weeks may be daunting and can even seem impossible. So, what about trying out one no-spend day a week?

Sticking to a weekly no-spend day is a routine that has become increasingly popular in the past few years. It can be a practice in self control, can help you build financially healthy habits, and can save you money. To practice a weekly no-spend day, you simply plan one day a week where you do not pull out your wallet. This may entail bringing lunch to work, walking instead of catching a bus, and avoiding the service station for a quick snack.

The benefit of tackling just one day at a time is that is a much smaller mountain to climb than a longer no-spend challenge. You may be surprised at how much you will save in a month after eliminating spending for just one day. Further, it will help you develop better habits around spending and saving that will carry over to the rest of your week.

Implementing a weekly no-spend day may lead you to cook and bring your own packed lunch to work more often, which will of course lead to you saving more money in the week. Try a no-spend day this week to see just how easy it can be.
