Wage Subsidy Grants

For the final of our blog posts about Government grants, we will be covering Wage Subsidies. This month we have covered a variety of grants that businesses are able to apply for to gain assistance in starting or growing your company. All grants have been offered by the Australian or Queensland governments.

Wage Subsidies

Wage Subsidies are available for eligible businesses in order to give them the means to hire qualified jobseekers in long term positions. The offered incentives are up to $10 000 (including GST) which may be available to eligible applicants. If successful, he subsidy will be paid to your business over a period of six months, however you will be able to request an initial payment of 40%, which will be approved on a case by case basis.

Eligibility

The minimum eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • The business must have an Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • The business must be a private, non-government organisation
  • The employer must hire a qualified jobseeker who can retain their position long-term (subsidies are not available for contract or temporary jobs)
  • The business must not have previously received a subsidy for the employee in question

Available Grants

There are a two main grants available for different situations.

$10 00 Incentive

A business is eligible for a grant of up to $10 000 if they hire an individual who meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • Is 15 - 24 years old
  • Is over the age of 50
  • Is an Indigenous Australian

$6 500 Incentive

A business is eligible for a grant of up to $6 500 if they hire an individual who meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • Is 25 - 29 years old
  • Has been registered with a recruitment agency for one year or longer
  • Is a single parent or principal caregiver
