It’s a weekday night, and you’re looking at a fridge of weird ingredients with no idea what to cook for dinner. What can you make with three carrots, soy sauce, peanut butter and frozen sausages?

Using up all the ingredients in the fridge is a great way to save money and stop throwing your hard earned cash in the bin. Additionally, ignoring food already in your fridge means you are likely to waste even more money on takeaway.

Here are two ways I use up old fruit and vegetables:

  1. Blend it – throw the slightly wilted lettuce in the blender with some fruit and carrots, and whiz it up to make an easy, healthy, and surprisingly delicious meal. For some extra protein, throw some peanut butter in the smoothie as well.
  2. If you’ve got a draw of miscellaneous veggies, you have an easy vegetable soup. Throw all the vegetables in a saucepan with some salt or a stock cube, and dinner is sorted.

Foodwise.com.au has a recipe generator, where you enter the ingredients from your pantry, and it will show you recipes that include those items. Now there’s an awesome tech solution to the age-old problem of miscellaneous ingredients!
